Service Description

A Verification of Competency (VOC) is an assessment of a persons knowledge and skills. This process can assists employers with meeting their Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) obligations to deem staff competent to perform a task or operate plant and/or equipment, this is usually used in conjunction with evidence of work history such as a resume. VOC requirements can be site specific and/or company specific. If a company your employer you work for, or a work-site you are visiting, requests a current VOC for a specific piece of plant or to undertake a particular task, you will need to complete a VOC using that machine, however they may just wish for a VOC on your licence. VOC’s are undertaken on persons who already hold a current ticket, licence or unit of competency, to verify that they are still competent to the national standard ie – against your Worksafe Licence. Persons undertaking a VOC must provide evidence of their existing competency (show their current licence). The outcome of the VOC process is a Statement which references the activities or tasks verified, and/or the plant and equipment verified on. How long does a Verification of Competency take? The time taken to conduct a VOC will always vary for each licence- sometime it takes only 30 minutes where some licence classes take up to 3hours. Can Verification of Competency’s be undertaken on my site? Yes we can visit your site or conduct on our site, again this is very easy to arrange. Most companies prefer students to be assessed on the equipment they are using and are familiar with. Can anyone conduct VOC’s – This has always been a grey area and there are a couple of legal cases going at the moment, the basis for this is how can someone who DOES NOT CONDUCT HIGH RISK ASSESSMENTS be able to verify that someone meets the Worksafe criteria for that licence. Can group VOC’s be done – Yes, we are more then happy to conduct groups. How often should VOC’s be done – There is no set standard timeframe for VOC’s, however most business are using a timeframe of every 2 years . Contact SD Construction Training today to discuss your needs and how we can help you and your staff.
